Saw this on The Learning Channel or Discovery Channel. It was a story about an aircraft mechanic who was also taking flying lessons to become a commercial pilot.
While working on an airplane, the engine fired, the propeller came around and took off the left side of his skull. It was retrieved from the tarmak and taken to the hospital with him. It was presumed that he could not survive the accident since the left side of his brain was surgically removed by the propeller as well as his skull.
He did survive and during his rehabilitation, they had him working with clay. Long story short, he has become an excellent sculpturer doing mostly early Indian life in bronze. His art work sells from $10,000 to $35,000 and he supports his family via his art. The pieces that were shown on television were outstanding.
Prior to his accident, he had not been any more artistic than most other folks.
I thought it was one of the most fascinating stories I have seen in a long time. Sorry, I don't remember his name, etc.
