First I want to say -- when I enter a show I'll be hoping Jill Ellis is one
of the judges. I'm not qualified to say anything about judging, but ---.
It would be good if there was at least a National Standard set of rules.
Show items carved in the past calendar year or an item that has not been
shown before. That way each item can only be campaigned one calendar year.
I know seeing it over & over for even a year can get upsetting, but that is
better than forever. If someone needs that much bolstering of their ego
just smile to yourself and be happy your not in their shoes. Besides just
because one set of judges give a carving high ribbons don't mean other
judges will. Everyone has to set their own "standards" or rules for
themselves rather it is in carving, raising children, keeping house, work
ethic, or any area of your life. Set your own standards/rules, live by
them, let that be between you and your God and let the next person do the
same. Remember the placing at any one show is just that group of judges
opinion that day.

What you say always makes sense and is interesting, and read all the way
through here, Susan.

Tom, It sounds to me like your surgeon at John Hopkins Hospital get his
inspiration from the highest source.

Listen to Susan -- her web site has great patterns as do her books. I have
her landscape relief book as well as her chip carving books and her
instructions/explanations are so well worded that a very new beginner can
easily understand them. I would love to take a class from her.

Good Night time is here!!

Good to read all your thoughts & feelings --- makes lots of food for
thought. Take care, my friends, and God Bless,

Sylda Nichols
