Hi Phill,
I'd be happy to pass my cypress knee source along. She is Darline Treitler
and I got started buying them from her on ebay. Contact her directly at
bpshoppegirlmt183 at yahoo.com and just be sure to tell her they are for
carving and that I sent you. You will like dealing with her.
She also has a new site with all her contact information on it, but her
knees aren't listed there yet, at
<http://thebackporchshoppe.tripod.com/>http://thebackporchshoppe.tripod.com
She doesn't have all the bark removed but her prices are very reasonable.
If they have worm holes, which makes that part useless for carving it will
say on her listings. She replies quickly ordinarily, but with the storm
coming she may be pretty busy or they may have headed for the hills to ride
it out??. I haven't heard from her since yesterday morning. If you do get
some I can tell you how to easily remove the bark, tho they remove part of
it. It is fun to carve and carves easliiy and cleanly. It does have to be
completely dry, but it dries fast when you remove the bark.
I sincerely hope everyone comes thru Ivan's wrath OK, and that the boat you
built can rides out one more. That it has already done so says a lot about
your ability as a boat builder. (I don't know the correct terms and I'm a
dry lander.)
I've been so envious of those of you who have the carving classes to
attend. But there is going to be a one night class HERE for
scrimshaw! And it's only $24 for class and some things, and I sure plan to
go! WHEEEE! :-) But for now I'm going to visit your web sites.
Everybody, please be safe!
