Where I live basswood and butternut is not available without ordering it from out of state.
I have a lot of spruce wood and wondered is it ok to carve in for a beginner?
I am in Georgia and soft wood that is used by most carvers just seems to not be available here, or at least this is what I was told.

I am new at this and just don't know what woods that I have here readily available to me is good for a beginner.
I have been looking at everyone's pictures that they have posted of their carvings and I want to tell each and everyone of you that they are all beautiful. I am waiting on my tools to get here that I ordered and looking at all the good carving talents just makes me excited and anxious to get started.
Good Job to all of you wood carvers!!
