Dan ...you are correct, Lee Valley sells the same frame. But 'much
lower'? Add the price of a quality motor, Trizact Belts, and the best
leather belt on the market and you may be surprised. Then add the
electrical supplies (switch/cord/etc). Don't forget to make sure the
motor you purchase has the correct mounting base. Don't forget to have
a motor that runs in clockwise (or can be made to do so). Consider the
time and effort of obtaining all the supplies, and the assembly.
And I guess one should also consider the intangible features IE: that
Chipping Away is a sponsor and supporter of multiple carving club
events, an advertiser in all the carving magazines (which helps keep the
magazines viable).
Sure don't mean to cause any turbulents ...just thought I should mention
a few things that sometimes we all forget to take into consideration.

Ray,
I agree, it seems to be a very nice tool, but it is also available at
Lee
Valley:

The price is much lower, but you must supply your own motor. You can buy
several different belts, including a leather one.
Thanks,
Dan

Here's an inquiry regarding sharpening systems. The adv in the latest
issue of WCI about the Ultimate Sharpening Machine being offered by
Chipping Away and tested by Roger Schroeder in the same issue. Does
anyone have experience with this tool? Roger's test indicates that the
tool will sharpen AND hone, but doesn't mention burr removal on the
inside of gouges.
It looks like a good tool, it has a small footprint and the price
seems
OK. If the leather belt can polish the inside burr off from the bevel
side of gouges, it would be a very useful tool. In any case it should
be excellent for keeping a fresh edge. Appreciate any feedback, thanks;
