[Woodcarver] Shop colors & bench layout

I am fortunate enough to have built a new workshop recently and need to
know what color I should paint the shop.  I was going with an satin
finish off-white thinking that deeper colors may affect my color
perception when painting birds for competition.  
Also, I have seen some unique carvers work benches in the past, some
form a 'U' shape, while others are the standard workbench. I am looking
for something that doesn't use a lot of room but puts your tools etc.
within easy reach.
