[Woodcarver] Persimmon?

Tim- I have carved a few items w/ persimmon. I did a N.A. flute out of it that I am proud of. Some call it the "war club flute" due to the density of the wood. It is indeed hard, but what I have worked with did take detail well and finished beautifully. Good luck and touch up those tools frequently!

I have a lovely piece of persimmon that I had originally purchased for turning, but the grain in it is so nice that I've decided that I'd like to carve it instead, if that's not going to destroy my wrists and arms in the process. Has anybody out there ever carved persimmon, and if so, is it as hard as I've heard? I've done some work with Olive in the past and it seems to be a little less dense, but I haven't put a knife or chisel to it yet.
