[Woodcarver] wood bleach

Hey,
I've got a polar bear that I've carved in Peter Benson's class in the Florida Roundup. It's carved out of basswood. And I'd like to bleach it white instead of painting it.
I've tried to find a two part bleach in my area. But have been unable to.
I see on the internet that the two part bleach is one part sodium hydroxide and one part hydrogen peroxide.
I have both the hydrogen peroxide and the sodium hydroxide ( red devil lye).
Has anybody made up their own bleach using these chemicals? If so, what ratio do you mix the lye with water?
I'm aware that the lye is to be handled with care.
