Dick- I had the same problem when I wanted to bleach a portion of a relief done in poplar, I finally experimented w/ diluted household bleach and neutralized it w/ white vinegar. Did this several times as I was "skeered" it would work too quickly. Very little fuzz raised w/ poplar, but ya might wanna try a small piece of basswood before committing!
