[Woodcarver] wood cracks

Hi Nelson,
For small cracks I fill them with bees wax in the winter when the cracks are
open. In the summer when the crack closes I take off the excess bees wax,
roll it into a ball and save it for next winter. If I would fill the crack
with something hard like epoxy the crack would not be allowed to close which
tends to cause the crack to become a bigger crack. Wood is a material that
breathes and needs to move.

Does anyone know how to get rid of or lessen some cracks. I have a piece of
Tulip wood, about three feet in dia, and 4" thick. It has numerous small
cracks all over the piece. I have been poring water on it and spreading it
around. It will help for a while, but when it dry's it will show cracks
again. I have heard, that mixing Anti Freeze and water 50/50 it will take
most of the cracks out.?? Any suggestions?
