[Woodcarver] Quick question

Hi Jimmy,
After the blocking out has been completed on birds and animals, I was taught
to work in a manner that recognized the flow of the feathers or fur. Usually
this means working from the back to the front or the lower level to the
higher level. This way you can first lay down the lower grouping of feathers
or fur allowing the next grouping to naturally overlay the lower grouping.
I think this sequence is most critical in the detailing process.
I was also taught to work on the head of any animal or caricature first. If
I goofed up on that, I would be better off starting from scratch than trying
salvage techniques.
I hope this helps.

For a beginning carver, after blocking out a figure, animal or caricature
carving, what area do you start detailing first?
