[Woodcarver] CARVING SUBJECT QUESTION!!!!

 hello everyone,
  
  well temperatures are finally well under the freezing point.
  however my mood  is still high up where it is nice and warm.
  
  i met santa four times yesterday, i swear he looks different every time i see him,lol.
  
  i have  a question regarding 3d carving.
  
  i am in the designing faze of 4 abstract carvings (big ones)
  my main problem is how do i make sure i have the dimensions correct before i start buying the  and  carving.
  
  i  have tought about using a 3 d computerdrawing program but i am to much of a cluts to work with that.
  
  i just  would  like  to  have  some   kind  of  a  model  first  to see   how  it  would  look  before  carving. the  wood is costly and i would like to have my bases covered before so i  don't screw up.
  
  does anyone  have  some  good  idears   about  this  and  what  do  you   usually  do  to  solve  this  problem?
