Hi, Ev,
I have used Pentacryl several times. The first was on a small
ironwood branch that a customer sent me to make ornaments from. It
was pretty green when I got it. I followed the instructions on the
bottle, and ended up with just one hairline, barely visible check
that had already started before I got the branch. This past summer I
carved some wood spirits in cedar fence posts. One had already begun
to check, another was very green. I used Pentacryl....this time,
because of the size of the piece, I brush it on. On the other one I
used Wood Juice, from the same company. Both pieces were check free.
Pentacryl is not cheap, but IMHO it is worth the price.
