Oily woods like rosewood can be washed down with alcohol prior to sealing
and finishing to cut through the surface oils and remove them.

I've done some projects with some Brazilian rosewood that I have and have
had good results by first sealing them with thinned lacquer, then rubbing
in several applications of Danish oil, and finally applying several layers
of Butcher's Wax, which both feels and smells wonderful.
