Bonnie:

My income comes from and number of sources:
1. Carving commissions. About half my income is found in this.
2. Carving instruction. About 40% is found here.
3. Books: about 5%
4. The List: about 4%
5. Misc. Sources 1%
6. Trade-shows/Crafts Fairs: I do not attend these. My relief carving
start at $2000.00 and most trade shows and craft fairs are nor meant
for marketing in this price point category.
7. Magazine advertising: completely out of my league. Maybe if I were
a tool supplier, where volume sales are possible, this would make sense.
8. Signs: Not permitted for a home-based business in Saskatoon.

My advice: Participate in local and regional craft/art fairs as much
as you can stand to do this. Start teaching the craft. Learn how to
build your own website and maintain it.
Make connections through the Woodcarver Mailing List. Network with
local artisans and artists.

Hope this helps,

Bill
