Merry Christmas to all

My question does anyone have any experience with getting insurance
on carvings, from fire and theft?
Thanks Chris Howard

Hi Chris,

For my own work-in-process and finished inventory of carvings I insure them
through my regular business insurance. My business insurance is all
encompassing covering fire, theft, and liability even when I'm out doing
shows or installing my work. When I have a work-in-process that exceeds my
normal coverage I carry a rider to cover the additional cost. When I host
the GOW I carry a rider for additional coverage. I have additional raw
material stored at home, which I have a rider to cover against fire or
theft.

There have been some recent changes in insurance law when transporting art
(our carvings). They need an appraisal of the value. They will not accept a
contract or Work Order that states the value it sold for. All they will
accept is an appraisal. They accepted Marnie Whillock as my appraiser
because of her working as an editor of Carving Magazine, working in the
carving industry most of her life, selling carving tools and supplies and
also having run a woodcarving gallery. It is very important to cover the
cost if our work gets damaged or destroyed during transportation or
installation.

Bottom line, become very good friends with your insurance agent. Don't
assume you're covered.

Merry Christmas Chris,
