CONGRATULATIONS on your wonderful old wood.
hope your project is just as memorable as the endurance of the wood. a few
years ago, i was also given a similar timber in old age as yours, from the
sydney harbour, i treasure this piece, which is dark and quite interesting.
but have not been able to come up with something that will make it justice.
the donor was a great friend and wonderful woodturner, and father of one of
my students.
it would be of much interest to all of us to know more your process of what
the future holds for your piece.
in my case, i have talked with others who had small pieces from it, and said
it took ages, sharp tools, and there was a great amount of crit and dirt
accumulated over the years, and found carving the old relic was so tedious
and required lots of sharpening.
the hardwork does not concern me much, but what concerns me more is that
such a gift needs lots of planning and evaluation and thanking .
your thoughts would be much appreciated.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOURS
cheers
maricha
