Lori,

I'm Jealous!!!! Your hubbie cooks!!! Your hubbie does laundry!!! Now,
for the $64,000 question, do you rent him out to other authors? Now if
Sally's good David cooks and does laundry too, well, I think I will go
have a good cry.

Mine only gets to answer e-mails, process orders, fuse with our IP
service, maintain the website, go to the Post Office, and then about 3AM
he gets to start it all over again. If it weren't for Frozen Foods we
would up the preverbal creek :) In 1997 my Michael made the
dramatically awful mistake of saying "Let's put your artwork on the
internet!" And he did. And he did it very very well. In a few months it
became clear that he was going to have to quit his job and come to work
for us instead of for them ... He has never said that he regrets it and
I have never asked because I simply can't do with him. Plus if I am
working on a book, my Mike has the full weight of the business on his
shoulders.

As for being "a bonified Obsessive/Compulsive Personality" around a
publishing house, now that you are published you have earned the title
of "Prima Dona" or "Diva" and you will see it written into the fine
print of the next contract, right where it says Sign Here. Any more Fox
and I contract that I get at least two royal snits, three juvenile
tantrums, one really big pout, and a hint of "I'm never doing this
again!" per book. In return in their clauses they get at least one "We
have got to have it done yesterday", two "we need six more of
fill-in-the-blank", and five "late Friday Afternoon Crises".

And I love it!

I'm stopping over at your site right now to get my copy of your new
book! http://www.WhisperingEagle.com

1. Not a single clean fork in the house because all of the dishes we
own are stacked up, dirty, in the sink ....That one doesn't apply. Hubby
does all the cooking (GREAT cook, too.) I'm tame, but not domesticated.

2. Your blue jeans are about three days past ripe because there just
hasn't been a moment to do laundry....See above. Oh, and let's not
forget the request that in the future "would I please take my dusty
clothes off on the deck, so the dust doesn't get tracked into the
house?"....Uuuuhhhhhh....O-kaaaaaayyyy...and how long is the sentence
for public nudity?

3. Your beloved husband wandering down the hall in the early morning
hours to find the living room floor covered with pages and pages of half
written notes, partially finished patterns, open library books used for
references and ideas, and you sitting in the middle of the pile
throwing a royal tantrum of frustration....Oh, there were some
magnificent temper tantrums to be sure...lol. My dear husband had no
problems taking my "suggestion" that he go play golf or flyfishing (can
you say, "if you want to stay in one piece"?)

4. Morning alarm clocks set for 4 AM just to squeeze in an extra hour
or two of work before the real work of the day begins....
Alarm clock set? You actually got some SLEEP??? There were a few
all-nighters pulled.

5. The growing pile of finished samples totally consuming every nock
and cranky of your house and you don't dare open any closet door for
fear of being buried under wooden boxes, sign blanks, and other assorted
carvings and wood burnings...Actually....NOTHING except the three
carvings, and husband asking "Are you going to start your commissions,
soon? How about some cash flow?" (My answer: See #3 above).

The book definitely took on a life of its own, as I'm sure Susan can
attest. By the way, I have your expanded Great Book of Dragon Patterns.
I've never carved a dragon, but I LOVE dragons. Great job!!!!

As to having a "Moral Support Team"...it would be a sorry undertaking
indeed without them. We may write, carve and photograph, but the book
couldn't be done without our M.S.T. for sure!

Funny stuff, Susan...I'm glad I'm not the only one (grin)! This being my
first book, I had NO IDEA what I was in for (neither did Fox
Chapel...hehehehe). I'm afraid they got a dose of a bonified
Obsessive/Compulsive Personality (yes, it's true, I'm OCD).

After the dust settled and I could breathe again, I have to say that
despite all the inevitable problems, it was an enjoyable experience. And
if Fox decides there will be a "next time", then I know a little more
about what to expect. The road should be smoother. They were a joy to
work with and they did a SUPER job with the design and layout...

Thanks again, Susan for the chuckles!
