How does the water help. I am a cross over woodworker - so misting with

water seems like a no no.

Hi Vic,

i haven't carved any basswood goose eggs, but i've worked mostly with red

cedar and carve mostly in the round, for me it was whichever complemented

what i wanted and made sure i had a really sharp knife. some breakage some

not.

 Glenda

ps lightly spraying the wood with water also helps on breakage.

Hi,

I have a few basswood goose eggs to carve Santa heads. I laid out my

first one

and it came out well. I started a second one tonight and realised that I

didn't

know if you should center the face on the edge of the grain, or with the

flat of

the grain, or doesn't it matter? (I started this one on the flat of the

grain)

So, for all you basswood egg carvers, what is your preference for laying

out

faces on eggs with regard the to grain?

Thanks, Vic H
