[Woodcarver] Origin and meaning of "skin carp"... CHAT

Fellow listers:
Since I received the donation from (Dr.) Hugh Thomson earlier this
morning, I've been wondering why his carving handle is "skin carp".
Is HT a surgeon? In that case, we shudder to imagine what "skin carp"
might mean.
Perhaps he is a dermatologist. In which case he may be referring to
some exotic skin disease.
Perhaps HT is a Doctor of a different stripe, whose hobby is fishing.
In which case, his preferred fish species might be Carp (whitefish?)
So, Dr. Hugh... how about filling us in on the original AND meaning of
"skin carp", OK?
