[Woodcarver] Carving Basswood eggs - Thanks

I have gotten eggs that were not good carving wood.  The last 100 I bought
was about 30% worse than bad.  That was a first for me.  Most of the eggs I
had bought up to then were good wood.

To all who responded on my basswood egg question, thanks for the comments
and 
the help!  The egg I did on the flat grain did indeed carve poorly, The next

will be done on the side grain!

As far as wetting with water/alcohol,  thanks, but toughness wasn't the
issue 
for me, just that the wood was crumbling and nothing short of a bath in
super 
glue and letting it dry would stop that problem!  (part of the problem was
that 
the egg was cut from the outer edge of the tree I think, there was a
definate 
difference from one side to the other, hard and soft wood)
