I too have had an experience with clothing being wrapped up in a power tool.
I learned some valuable lessons. I had just started to power carve in
Fredericksburg, Tx TWG and no one told me too much. Guess they figured I
knew. I had just finished up a wren and need to put in the eyes. Most of us
had put away our power tools so a nice man told us we could use it as it
would only take a minute to set the eye socket. I think he learned a lesson
that day too. I bent down to get better lighting as we were outside and
caught my fringe on my coat. All the classes outside just gasped. It
wrapped up that fringe really quick. One lessons is never borrow anyone's
equipment even if it is just for a minute and don't wear loose clothing. I
don't have any fringe on that coat today, I cut it off. I also had to pay
for the mans equipment to be fixed. It was worth the $25 to fix it as I
learned a good lesson. It could have cost me body damage.
Another time I was carving close to my lap and caught my new blue jeans.
Boy that wraps up pretty quick too. Very scary. I then purchased my
leather apron. I don't leave home with out it. You just have to be very
aware of things when you are power carving. I love the power as a woman, I
can move more wood quicker than with a knife.
I did like the comment about power carving bald and naked. I had to
chuckle. I will pass that along to all my carving friends. Hope you don't
mind I share that.
