I think that there was an explanation using 100 power microscopes. There 
were a number of other carvings in minature. The museum was in a converted 
church; in Russia in those days  churches and abbeys were seized by the 
state and mostly used for museums. I will try to see if there is anything 
on Kiev or Ukraine website.
