in cabinet making they mount overhead cabinets using french cleats screwed
into the studs. cleat as long as the cabinet is screwed into studs after
leveling. the top piece of the cleat is a 45 degree angle angled down into the wall
on the top surface. a matching cleat is attached along the top of the back
of the cabinet with a 45 degree angle angled up and into the back of the cabs
running the bottom length of cleat. the cabinet is then lifted into place
where the 2 45 degree angles will meet each other and interlock and the cabinet
will sit suspended on the cleats. additional screws go directly thru cabinet
frame into studs for added support. it sounds complicated but is really just
two pieces of angled 2x4. one on the wall, one on the back of what you are
hanging.
