Hi Fred;
I think you will find that relief carvers will have different ideas on what
type of bench is best...something like sharpening I guess.(G)
Bill Judt's relief carving bench is a well designed unit, I imagine it was
designed to suit his needs.
Dave Bennet the carver/author of carving in a different light thought that
carving a relief in the position that it would be shown/hung was important,
so he designed a bench with a tilting top.
Bennet had an article called "Carving in a Different Light" based on his
theory in Chip Chats back in Mar/Apr 1991, so many requests came in to Chip
Chats about the bench he was using in the article that Chip Chats printed a
copy of his bench design in May/Jun of 1991.
I think the bench that Patti Landmann mentions in her post that Richard
Rombold designed and posted on his Picture Trail Gallery is based somewhat
on Bennet's bench but that's only guesswork on my part.
Anyway the short and sweet of it is that I think Richard Rombold's bench is
worth taking a look at for anyone considering making their own relief
carving bench.
