Hi Kevin
www.fishcarver.com/wood_carving_duplicator.htm
This machine works really well and is not too complicated to build. I built one with quality materials and a Porter Cable router for under $600. It is as good as the commercial units, though perhaps a little less convenient to set up.
Also, there is a single spindle carving machine called, I think, "Gemini" which is made in upstate New York somewhere and which appears to be the best mid-priced machine available.
Lastly, if you want quality roughouts in quantity at really fair prices, I would encourage you to talk to Jimmy Bates Jr. at Carving Solutions. He's a list member. I've worked with him in the past and his product and service are exceptional.
Hope this helps
Stephan Toman
