I have been reading the exchanges on your response to Charlie's message with
interest. I'm not a prude but I think your critics are missing an important
point. This list provides a great service to we carvers and you devote a
lot of time and energy to its maintenance. You, as list owner, are
certainly entitled to set the standards for participation. If we aren't
willing to accept those standards, we should stick to the carving magazines.

My issue was NOT the standards by which you are allowed to participate in this list. Bill has every right to run it as he sees fit. He even has the right to handle things differently for simular situations. But that doesn't mean there should be NO objections when things aren't handled the same way. In the Crumb case he gave a gentle warning. In this case he shut off access to the list. If he's going to shut off access in one case it would be better to be done in all cases. Lack of consistency is my major objection. Secondary objection is an attempt to expand the definition of the word "porn" beyond that which is generally the accepted definition by most of western society. I took the way it was handled as an attempt to push Bill's religious views on the rest of. But that again is something he can do. Asking for change, in my opinion, is always valid. If change doesn't happen we have a choice of leaving or not.
I've been a member of this list from about a year after it started. I've seen lots of tempers fly, and lot of hard feelings, etc. I'm also a member of another carving list, which in the words of one who recently left this list and became part of that list "is less stuffy". Will I leave this list. I'm not sure yet, but that's been under consideration for some time.
Now I suggest we all get back to carving.
