Maricha,
Sorry, wasn't really ready to send that last message.... here's the completed version. Anyway, I was heavy into researching this recently. Didn't find anything specifically on carving them. With Fimo clay and cloth based constructions, carving puppets from wood is discouraged in favor of more guaranteed methods, especially for the beginner. Couple of books I found that were helpful... "Marionettes: How to Make and Work Them" by Helen Fling, and "Marionette Magic" by Bruce Taylor. Neither have how too carve them from wood specifically, but you just substitute your woodcarving skills in place of other techniques for forming the feet, hands, head/neck, etc.
When searching the web, I had better luck calling them marionettes not just puppets. Try "carved marionettes" or "hand carved marionettes" as key words for Google or Yahoo search. I found the following just now:
http://www.czechmarionettes.com/published_v1/ShopPage.aspx?artistID=5&marionetteID=37&type=Original
http://www.puppetworks.org/
http://www.sagecraft.com/puppetry/builders/
Still haven't found the one that blew my socks off, but.... guess I should have bookmarked it.
