Fellow Carvers, here is an update on Jim Byrne's class description
for GOW 2005.

GOW expanded course descriptions:
Carving the Celtic Knot Spoon
Description: In addition to instruction in carving and finishing a
spoon, students will learn about the background of what is commonly
called a "love spoon" and techniques for modifying and
individualizing traditional designs.
Tools: Students will need a carving knife with a Wharncliffe or
sheepsfoot blade, a gouge no wider than ½" with a #5 or #8 sweep, and
a protective carving glove.
Class size: maximum of 10 students. A morning and an afternoon class
will be offered if interest warrants and instruct space permits.
Cost: One blank and instructional materials are included in the
registration fee.

Carving the Traditional Maple Sugar Mold
Description: In addition to instruction in carving and finishing a
maple sugar mold, students will learn about the tradition of tapping
maple trees and rendering the sap into syrup and sugar in the Midwest.
Tools: Students will need a knife to make stop cuts, a gouge about ¾"
with a #6 or #8 sweep, and a protective carving glove.
Class size: maximum of 10 students. A morning and an afternoon class
will be offered if interest warrants and instruct space permits.
Cost: One blank and instructional materials are included in the
registration fee.

Carving the Rose Bud Egg
Description: Learn to carve a simple rose bud, a Trinity knot, a
shamrock, a pumpkin, or other relief designs on a wooden egg.
Tools: Students will need a carving knife with a Wharncliffe or
sheepsfoot blade and a protective carving glove.
Class size: maximum of 10 students at a time. This class will have an
informal structure. Drop in and give it a try.
Cost: Two eggs and one base are included in the registration fee.
