The new Buck Bros, might be the ones to stay away from. I don't know. The
set I bought was about 50 years ago. They were nothing special even back
than. Got them from Sears.

Joe and others,

My dozen Buck Bros were also bought a while ago, '67! They still had wooden
handles and were American made, although I think Buck was already slipping on
quality then. Earlier Buck Bros were among the best American steel edged tools
you could buy. Somewhat later they were bought out, or at least the name was
bought out, by Great Falls tools and everything is now made for price only
off-shore and is worthless unless you want to spend all your time sharpening
after a minute or two of carving. The old Buck tools are fine, the new ones
aren't worth the effort.

Of course, Sears back 50 years ago sold excellent tools rather than tools they
can sell for a price, regardless of quality.
