I ordered 15 Pfeil chisels and a couple of knifes - Several carvers. Terry

I have up to a half dozen different brands of carving tools in my
collection. For the past few years, I have followed Chris Pye's advice. He
recommends that you try tools from different makers (good ones only) to see if one
brand suits you more than others or if one brand is better for you for a
particular tool.
For instance, I love my Pfeil #3 1 1/2" gouge (sweep) for cleaning up
background fields on relief carvings. It just suits me although it took a while
to get the right angle on it as it is quite thick and comes with too great
an angle. I just enjoy using it and love the way it clears out wood.
I have found a couple brands of well known quality tools that I just do
not enjoy using???? But I do like most but would have to say that Pfeil brand
is among my most favorite tools.
For those not acquainted with him, Chris Pye is a professional carver
from the U.K. who has written some of the best books on carving that you will
find. He really gets into the knitty gritty of carving and tools. All his
books are available thru Amazon.com.
I have no commercial interest in Chris Pye's books. Took his relief
carving course in Maine a couple years ago. He has done a number of high end
carvings for the nobility, churches, and homes in the U.K.
