Hi Tom,
Wow. Good think my bride didn't see your email, I'd be bombarded with the "now his hat won't fit" jokes. Thanks, you made my day. As for your questions:
1. I'm afraid the "them again" applies as to my professional status. I've just been fortunate enough to have the resources available to buy the necessary tools and took the time to research and learn the skills. Probably its the quest for knowledge that I enjoy most, since I'm still searching for "my niche". Maybe carved inlays on turnings installed on classic furniture, as long as it involves wood. However I do sell the odd piece and make about 50 cents an hour at it.
2. The Indian was done in a professional sculptor's studio as part of an evening course that lasted several months. Chris Rees was a very talented artist and an excellent teacher. I would highly recommend clay sculpture lessons to everyone interested in carving.
3. Most of the pictures on my picture trail are digital, taken with a Canon S400, 4.1 megapixel camera, without aid of any optional lens. The S400 does not have the ability to go totally manual but does have a macro mode which allows focusing down to 2 inches. It was a great little camera until it grew legs a couple of months ago. Fortunately this gave me the excuse to replace it with a Canon ProShot G6, 7.1 megapixel. Now I have to greatly expand my knowledge of digital photography since this thing will do just about anything auto or manual. It has a super-macro mode (the reason I chose this camera) which I'm going to have fun with. The quest continues.
Anyway thanks for the high praise. If ever I feel down I'm going to solicit your opinion of my work.

  Larry,
Was very delighted with your photos, referring to the flowers specifically. Question: Were they taken with a regular 35mm with a close-up lens or did you use a digital camera with a close-up lens? Inquiring minds want to know.
The flower pictures were so fantastic I would like to try my hand at them. Have several Canon cameras and a digital, but have never gotten the quality pictures with my digital that you have if they are digital.
The Indian was excellent and wish I could say that I had done something even close to it.
Outstanding work. Assume you must be a professional carver and wood turner. Then again you seem talented in so many areas.
Thanks for sharing your work and pictures.
