Bing,
I've haven't actually tried resin casting yet, but have been researching it.
I'm leaning towards resin casting with pecan flour extender. From what I've
read it comes close to taking paints in the same way real wood does. I have
a book (like that's a surprise <G>), "The Prop Builder's Molding and Casting
Handbook". It's OK... has a good discussion of mold release agents and
using more available materials for castings. Down side is, that they aren't
concerned with longevity for these props. When I was flipping through it at
the art store, a recycling tip caught me and helped sell it. They use an
old meat grinder to chop up old silicon molds and use the bits as filler for
new molds.
Just MTCW.
Keep on Carvin'
