I lived in Ketchikan for 6 years; you'll love this quaint town..  They have a totem pole carving demo at Saxman Indian Village that is great.  Also a great totem park.  You should be able to buy carvings in all the places you're going to.  One of the list members (Steve Lankard?) lives in Metlakatla, on an island near Ketchikan.

My wife and I are going on an Alaskan cruise the first week of June. I am 
told by my lovely wife that our ship is going to take us to the inner 
passage??? My question is will I get a chance to see any woodcarvings or 
places that sell woodcarvings when I get on shore? We have 4 or 5 stops. 
Juneau,Sitka,Ketchikan, Glacier Bay, Sagaway.
