[Woodcarver] Alder

Hi All....
Just a quick question before I try.... Has anyone ever done any chip carving 
using seasoned Alder?  I have a project to do for a church and the Pastor 
has expressed wanting for me to use indigenous wood.  Basswood does not grow 
in Alaska, so the wood I have to choose from, in my area, is Red Cedar, 
Yellow Cedar, Hemlock, Spruce and Alder.  I have quite a bit of Alder in my 
smoke house so I was just wondering what the experts think?
