Bonnie:
If you can, ASK the person for permission. A phone call... or even
better, an email request... is all it takes.
My wife has contacted recording artists, photographers, cartoonists
and the like for permission to use their work in her powerpoint
presentations for the high school. She teaches a chastity curriculum
in the high schools and often wishes to use music, cartoons, photos
and the like to communicate her message. She has a 900 batting
average in getting permission, even from the likes of Anne Geddes and
Lynn Johnson (For better and for Worse).
However, if you have a digital camera and tripod you can take your
own images. That's what I do these days, and I prefer to do it
myself. My own images are always exactly what I need.
I take them from the camera to the computer for editing. If I need
prints, I upload them to a Wal-Mart Photo centre and pick them up the
next day. Real slick. The images can be enlarged on a photocopier at
your local Staples store. The large color photocopies can then be
taken to your light table (you do have a light table, don't you) for
tracing and incorporating into a pattern.
Be creative!! Use some of the technology around you!!
Hope this helps,
Bill
