true however when u send in a work to be copy writed they will suggest this be done as well

A poor man's registration is to put part of the manuscript, photo, etc.
into an envelope and mail it to yourself, then keep the envelope on file
unopened. The postmark establishes the date. It is not a legal way to
register a copyright, but it can be helpful in establishing the date of
origination in case there is a dispute.
