[Woodcarver] question about relief carving

Hi Cathie,

You can solve the problem with carving technique and ultra sharp tools. After all, many generations of carvers have come before the invention of crazy glue. Carve in the direction from the fragile to the strong or in other words from the smaller point to the larger mass. Make sure that the tools are sharp enough to slice through the fibers rather than push them.

Your friend,

Ron

It happens to all of us, the grain does nt run in the direction that the strength is needed and the fibers breakoff sideways. If you take liquid(as opposed to gel) crazy glue and soak the area with it, it will make the fibers pretty strong. Just be sure to carve all the crazy glue off so only the grain shows in the end.
