I would outline the antler with a #11 Xacto knife, to cut the surface fibers
cleanly using the thinnest blade possible. No compression, no wedge effect,
just a clean start to the series of stop cuts the others described. You'll
do most of the damage early in the process, so you want to get the best
start you can.
