I have seen those "furniture scrapers" listed on ebay and elsewhere. Could
those work in the burnishing/rubbing/cutting until smooth method? I have
never even held them but I was wondering if these would work to smooth out
the course areas.

hi harry what I do is take a knife and go over the
area that have been cut and keep movin it so that the
rought areas come out smooth just as if u would be
cuttin a lawn with a mower or a rider so that it comes
out even not uneve.
Hope that does help my problem is the bowls dont come
out smooth.
Bill
