I still have not chosen my specialty area, or rather it still hasn't chosen
me. When i started carving I really wanted to do reliefs but after 3&1/2
years I can count the reliefs i've done on one hand, but my busts and statues
and sculptures number in the many. I would like to go into more classical
carving, by classical I mostly mean mallet work, reliefs and acanthus. Problem
is people keep commissioning me to do woodspirits and bark carvings. I will
probably wind up down the road being a full time commission carver also doing
my own classical style on the side. I love grinling gibbons and ian norburys
work and will probably start heading toward some more complicated stuff in
the near future.
