Bill,
Believe me, when the opportunity/project for it comes along I will try it, but only because I've seen it done well on your carvings.
I've already benefited from your example... probably several times... but I'm remembering the dimpling tool (texture tool?) you describe on your web site for kicking up the contrast between the background and the foreground. I made a couple of different sizes, and used them on my hanuman plaque commission. Thank you again for that as well.
Keep on Carvin'

Mike:
Try it. It's not that hard once you figure out how it works.
My third book "Inspirational Carving" has a 30 page step-by-step project in it that features this "transparent text" that you like.
If you order a copy from me (I have about 50 copies left here at home) I will autograph it and send it out.
Go to: http://wwwoodcarver.com/Books/InspirationalCarving.html
Hope this encourages you to tackle this project.
Blessings and Peace,
Bill

Bill,
It's a beautiful piece. I've always been impressed with the fact you switch from incised to raised lettering with the changes in the background. It's definitely a signature style in your work, among others. If I had ever considered trying that without having seen it, the idea would have been rejected. You always pull it off. Great work.
