I have a book "Creative Light Wood Carverings" by J. Matthews, a 1975 reprint 
of one first published   in 1968 by Edward Arnold (publishers) Ltd.   Mine is 
a signed copy when John visited NEWC (probably 1975 or there abouts).    He 
wrote a number of books, but doesn't list "Present Day..." in my copy
