thanks Everett,   are you still looking for info on the  history of carving.  
i found a great old book (don't recall its name right  now) great chapter on 
the history of wood sculpture.  I can scan and email  it mon or tues if you'd 
like.  I thought of you as i read it.  Let me  know.
