As for my first show, it was both a huge sucess and failure at the same
time. Pity the failure is always in the $ department. As an artist who works in
lots of wood mediums I had all types of wooden objects for sale, though 90%
was carvings. I showcased my carvings but really didn't sell any of them,
although there was interest expressed. My scrollsaw work and pyro work sold
easily because it could be priced more reasonably, while I was happy for the
dollars i was also dismayed as carving is my true passion, but yet I refused to
lower my prices. I made some money but not enough to make up for all the time
and energy invested but as for it being my first step out into the public,
it was a huge success. People love my work. Some people even thanked me for
doing this type of work which is rarely seen in my parts. I did get a
carving commission and some possible promises of others. I had people gathering
around me and my display all day. I was asked to be part of a six part series
of shows and also asked to participate in a juried show. The organizers of
the event , in no uncertain terms, let me know that I was the best artist
present and were begging me to return again. As I sit here tired on Mon. morn
assessing the whole experience, I know that i will need to find better venues
for my carvings but overall am quite happy with my first venture out into the
public.
