[Woodcarver] Wotchacorv'n?????????

Hi Jan,

We're still carving roses here at The Carving Shop. Tina has carved a bunch 
(75) already. We needed 51 new roses to add to the 48 roses that I carved 
for the Tree Of Life at Rosary High School in Aurora over 20 years ago. 
Both, the old and new roses, being butternut with natural clear varnish 
finish I would never have guessed there would be a vast mismatch in color. 
The new roses were much darker. After trying different varnishes, lighter 
pigment stains and even wood bleach there was nothing that made the new ones 
even close to the old ones. So I decided we would carve them all over again 
but this time in Basswood. In 37 years I've never had a dissatisified 
customer so I didn't want Rosary High School to be my first. Tina is really 
getting very good at carving roses. She will have carved over 125 just to 
get the 51 that we like.

I'm still finishing up the Sandwich Illinois History mantel to be auctioned 
off for the Fox Valley Older Adults. And I'm gluing up some butternut for a 
"Gates Of Heaven" plaque (Triptych) to fill an order. Tomorrow I'll be 
drawing up another family history mantel.

Its been a while sinds we asked this question
Now that fall is upon us we got git mov'n
I did carve an egg at the GOW and Thea wanted to see it so I had to carve 
one here as I did NOT take a picture of the first one
But I did take one of the second one and it can be seen in my P T Album 
under GPO 2001 (second album)
I STILL do NOT get any posts from the Carvingfun list
Is old Joe away, or sleeping ??
