Thanks Mike for your comments about Ian Norbury's books.  I did go back and read your reviews in WOM and found them very informative.  Although I think my first project along these lines will be a female torso and my current book will be helpful, I am now wanting to read through, and maybe get, the ones on the fundamentals of figure carving and on faces.  It looks like you will need them all for your current project.
