Hi Joe. Can't say that I know where you can get aspen logs but I will see what I can find out. There is a lot of Aspen up here and I know that you can get a permit from the U. S. Forest service to cut it in some areas but I do not know where or who might do that. There is a place in town that I have been wanted to stop in and see that has a large sign out front that says something like LOG FURNITURE and I also think "aspen" is somewhere in the signage. I will stop there the next time I go by (fairly often) and see if they and help or giive me a lead on your request. It might help if you let me know about the size (diameter and length) logs you want and if you want green or dry logs or either. Also, by "lots of character" am I correct in interpreting this to mean that they do not have to be relatively straight as one might expect for mantles and, in fact, some forks and significant bends are OK and even desirable? I am imagining this is for furniture pieces. The sign for the place I mentioned is framed by some heavy but interesting, curved and branching pieces of natural wood and in my head I imagine that the the furniture they make has similar features. I will let you know what I find out when visiting there.
ALEX
