Jan, I like the box a lot. So often chip carving, especially the "geometric style" seems to me to be too "busy". Your box is not that way and I like that a great deal.
Regarding my own carving, I seem to be on a part-time hiatus, but do have, as always, a number of projects in the works. One is a kestrel, full sized and decorative. It is carved and woodburned. I just have to stone the soft fdeathers, make the legs and habitat , put it together, and paint it. It is already sold as soon as I get it finished.
I'm also working on a commisssion of a bull for a friend of mine. He raises cattle and wants this carving to display in his office. He wants it to be about twenty inches tall and the image he gave me shows the animal to be bucking and it has only one foot on the ground, so it will be a real challenge to get the motion required in such a pose as well as support the carving on one foot. I may have to cheat on the support a bit as the carving goes along. My plan is to laminate smaller boards together to get the thickness I'll need and to install legs with the grain running 90 degrees from the body.
I'm also begiining to get things ready for the summer teaching schedule. I plan to be in Evart Michigan in July (hopefully gas prices will stabilize or moderate till then) and also teach in Honesdale, Pennsylvania for the Northeast Woodcarvers Roundup in July. I'm really looking forward to the summer and to seeing a lot of my carving friends again.
Keep on carving everyone.
