Wynne:

When it comes to carving water, especially when it is to be symbolic,
like the "living waters" talked about in scriptures, I like to
stylize it. If you root through the Christian Carvings on my website
you will see several examples of water be carved into rivulets...
like thick clay ropes we rolled and used in public school art class
to make clay pots.

These rivulets can wind around rocks easily, and spread out as they
move from background to foreground. You can have lots of fun with
this, and end up with a stylized representation of moving water that
dramatically catches light and shadow.

The link to my web site is below. Let me know if this is helpful to you.

Blessings and peace,

I’ve got a commission to do an outdoor sign for a Christian
counselor. The business is called ‘Living Waters’ and the owner
wants a waterfall tumbling over rocks. Not one of the tall
waterfalls, but a low one covering some distance. I’m probably not
describing it well. I’m thinking maybe I should make the water real
smooth (It looks smooth in the picture I’m using) and the rocks
rough, but I’m in the design stage, haven’t had much time to think
about it yet, and welcome any suggestions. It needs to be peaceful,
comforting and soothing, but powerful. How do I convey the power of
the waterfall?
